Most plastic bottles we find in the bathroom are  plastic #1 (PET) or #2 (HDPE) – the same mixture used for water bottles and milk jugs.  PET and HDPE are accepted forms of plastic for recycling.

Start recycling in the bathroom by learning what plastics marked #1 (PETE) and #2 (HDPE) are recyclable in your community.

Plastic shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, baby powder, face and body cleanser, and body oil containers are normally made with recyclable bottles.

Paper based items are recyclable:  Toilet paper rolls; cardboard boxes and cartons for over the counter drugs, lotions, soaps, bandages, tissue etc.

Toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes are made with plastic laminate, which most  municipalities do not accept for recycling and are generally not recyclable, most municipalities don’t accept them.

Dental floss containers are usually made with multiple parts and multiple materials, so they generally cannot be recycled.

Pumps on bottles have multiple components that are contained within a pump.  Please remove all pumps before recycling a bottle, then put the bottle in your recycling and reuse the pump or put it in your garbage.

Remember who will inherit the planet.  It’s our responsibility to take care of our natural resources now, and forever.  Most of us recycle, many of us forget to recycle in the bathroom. So help us spread this informational reminder.
